Talking About Routines

Image
From BBC Learning English  I have two points to share here:  1. I obtained a badge and I have never expected it! 😊 2. What is routine? We live from day to day. We have to do work (our jobs). We want to go for holidays. We need money for it.Thus, we need to have an income from our job.  We need to eat everyday. We need to find foods, prepare foods or buying foods. We need money in order to get our foods. So, we need to have an income  in order to get our food.  In our working place, we have colleagues and so, they are friends. Other friends are from our varsity mates, our housing areas etc. We might be selective to not have many close friends. Those might be acquaintances, someone we know but we don't really know much about them.  And yes, family. It's not easy to define. Does family mean we are married to have own family or family included the home we are brought up with siblings? What about foster family? Not own biological family or we even don't know an...

Paper Book or e-Book?

Do you like reading? Or are you bibliophile? Which version do you choose?  I like reading πŸ“š. Last time I prefer to have the hard copies because holding a book πŸ“– to read makes me feel real "reading". However, nowadays to have a book is costly and to get a book we want is also not easy. Now, everything turns digital. Reading from the screen becomes the norm of our daily lives. Thus, I start to adapt myself to read the e-book.  To answer the quiz: how many words does a person read daily?  My answer is 50,000 words which was incorrect! Well, I think it depends on who the person's are and the daily nature of work. If we are checking the students' assignments or reading to answer the assignment, writing reports, then the answer of 100,000 words would be achievable. So, 100,000 words a day! Wow, that's quite a lot for an average person.... What about audiobook? Personally, I haven't yet tried. But, listening to podcasts, yes. The recent activity I did was listening...

Making Lists

Image
Yesterday I watched this,  https://youtu.be/r4rl5wEjuLw?si=jLKd3AKYTD9qD3K2   Yes, making list to get organized. Students and educators like to make lists as notes taking. At the same time, listing the ideas is also good to  guide us in writing the essays. While making lists is a habit for many of us, I am not sure whether it can be used in text analysis (textual literacy). This is because it is too short, and is not written in complete sentences. Sometimes, the persons who makes the list tend to use their own secret words, just like the one in the video. She replaced the word cucumber with other word that only she alone can understand.  I mentioned textual literacy and text analysis because I came across these this morning. Please kindly comment if I have interpreted it wrongly .  Whatever it is, making lists is more than a practical tool, as stated here. List-making is a psychological strategy that give us a sense of satisfaction when things are done and we co...
